Overview:

Improved land resource management and delivery system has significant social and economic impact on individuals, community and State. The land and property related activities generate about 30-35 % of the GDP of the country. The National Advisory Council (NAC) in its concept paper envisages utilizing aerial survey and digital technology for updating of land records and developing a web based land resource information system under the National Common Minimum Programme (NCMP) of the Government of India.

With the new decentralized planning initiative, local bodies have acquired new form of existence and prominence in planning and development of India. Cadastral maps are now not only used for revenue purposes but also as base reference for local need assessment, planning and implementation of development projects related to natural resource management, conservation, disaster management, community development, service facility development and in many other areas. Further, to extend and have the effective utilization, the database needs to be linked into a Spatial Domain (GIS). Also, along with the parcel-wise land records, if the land resources are linked, it brings value addition for making better and effective decision for various planning activities.

So, Digital Land Resource Information System (DLRIS) project is to generate and create comprehensive resource information relating to transport network, power distribution line, school education, drainage & water distribution pipeline, Agriculture information, Village information and town planning, etc. integrated with Geographical Maps obtained from Satellite imagery.
